Cotton lawn is a super soft and light weight plain weave fabric, made from 100 percent cotton fibres. It has a high thread count which gives it a silky, smooth texture and slight drape.

Cotton lawn is a wonderfully behaved fabric. It presses like a dream and is easy to sew and handle, making it a perfect choice for beginners. It is a firm favourite for dressmaking projects as it combines natural fibres, with a beautiful silky soft handle and soft drape.

Our Minerva Exclusive cotton lawn is a supima lawn, which is the best quality. The cotton fibres from which supima derives is classed as extra long staple, meaning that the cotton fibres on the plant grow longer and as a result the yarn is finer. The finer the yarn, the smoother and stronger the fabric. This strength of yarn also improves resistance to pilling which is fantastic for dressmaking, as this will last longer when being washed more frequently. The yarn used to weave supima lawn is double combed which helps to smooth the yarn more by removing impurities ahead of weaving. It also has a higher GSM and tighter weave, resulting in a more uniform look and feel, with more lustre as well.

At 78 grams per square metre, this fabric is classed as light weight. This fabric is the perfect choice for sewing tops, blouses, skirts, dresses, even luxury pyjamas. It is also very popular for sewing baby and childrenswear.

We recommend sewing this fabric with a new very fine universal needle for best results.

This fabric is POD (printed on demand), so please allow extra time for delivery. Once you place an order for POD fabric, our team will carefully print your chosen design, on your chosen base cloth, to your chosen size, with care.
