Well hello there easy wearing pants!! During the winter I pretty much live in jeans, day in and day out, but come summer I almost never reach for jeans. They suddenly feel too tight and restricting - veritable leg prisons if you will. I want all the loose fit, elastic waist, cropped is even better, kind of pants.
When Closet Core started their subscription service “Crew” I initially scoffed at the idea. By the second month I’d had to eat my words because I was in hook, line and sinker and I signed up in a hot second. It’s been fun getting a new pattern on the first of every month but here’s the silly part. I haven’t made a single one of them yet. Well that is until now.
When I requested this spicy Paprika coloured stretch cotton twill for my Minerva Brand Ambassador project I was in the thick of deciding between the Closet Core Pietra Pants and the Papercut Palisade Pants. I even put it to a poll on my Instagram to try and help me out. (Spoiler : it didn’t help. The result was a solid 50/50.) Left to my own devices to decide I waffled a ridiculous amount. And then May 1st rolled around and the Crew pattern was the Sepia Pants. Forget Pietra. Forget Palisade. I knew my fabric was destined to be a pair of Sepia Pants. Procrastination and indecisiveness for the win!!!
The pattern itself was really straightforward and fun to sew with its double pockets on the front and the dart shaping at the knee and ankles. To boot they also have an elasticated waist! Does it get any better than that?!?
It did take me a long time to sew my Sepia Pants but that certainly wasn’t because of the pattern or fabric. I did a bit of a number on my back a while back so wasn’t able to sit for much length of time and I also had to set my pants aside to work on my “Mother of the Groom” dress for my son’s wedding last weekend. Sometimes it’s good to slow down the process though I figure. It gave me time to appreciate the little details like topstitching and bartacks. And there’s something a bit lovely about taking just a few minutes here and there to work on a project. Usually I’m so end result oriented so this ended up a happy change of pace.
The twill fabric proved to be perfect for my pants. It’s a great weight for pants - not too heavy which makes it still good for the warmer months. It washed and dried in the machine wonderfully and takes pressing well. It does have a little bit of stretch in it which is so comfy to wear! The Sepia Pants don’t call for stretch but I just sized down a bit to accommodate for it. The fabric is surprisingly soft too, for a twill, adding to the comfort level of my pants.
The fabric sewed up so beautifully which made this project even more enjoyable to make! I will definitely put this twill on my future purchase wish list because it was so nice to work with and comes in so many fantastic colours!! Maybe down the road I’ll make either the Palisade or Pietra Pants afterall…
