This skirt! I thought I would like it and as I was putting together the garments to style the photos, I had a good feeling. My good feeling turned into a great feeling when I put it on, I just keep saying this skirt! I love it so much.
When I asked for this fabric, my thought was a blazer. When the fabric arrived, it was a light weight wool suiting. I looked through my patterns and didn’t see what I wanted. A bit more thinking and my thoughts went to True Bias. I like her style and the garments fit me well, so the Mave Skirt went into my cart and later downloaded onto my laptop.
The Mave Skirt description ….The Mave pattern is an elastic waist skirt with a drawstring, inseam pockets and an optional lining. The skirt can be made with or without ruffles in different lengths to create numerous options.
My Minerva Lady McElroy Wool Suiting Fabric in Blue is so wonderful, a nice weight and such a drape. These two items made it perfect for the Mave Skirt. It is 80% wool and 20% polyester and I put it through a regular wash cycle and it came out beautifully.
I wanted the longer length, just fun for fall and winter, I went with a size 6 but could have made a 4 looking at the measurements. I am 5’8” tall, so I added one inch to each of the bottom tiers. This worked great for the boots I want to wear with this skirt, all of them have two inch heels.
The skirt does have pockets, woo-hoo, right? This step is at the beginning of the pattern, always fun to get these out of the way. I did not have 2 inch elastic as per the pattern requirements. To make it work with the elastic I have, I stitched three channels in the waistband. I inserted elastic into the top and bottom channels. The middle channel was for the drawstring and this all worked great. I was short on fabric so I did have to piece fabric for the drawstring and I cut some of the length off the drawstring.
To finish out the skirt, I turned the hem up twice and done. This was a quick project and has a big impact. My Minerva Fabric was perfect for this skirt and I look forward to wearing this all season long.
