Almost the end of May and I am still am making shirts, they are a staple of my summer wardrobe. Jeans and shorts are my summer bottoms, so for these basics I like to make lots of different tops. My fabric is another Art Gallery Poplin, I just sewed an Art Gallery and their fabrics are so good. This Art Gallery Poplin is 100% cotton and a medium weight. I loved the combination of aqua, white and red in the print, just the perfect colors of summer.
The weight of this Art Gallery fabric was one that I thought needed to be a button shirt. My first thought was a traditional button up, with collar and collar band. As I often do, I went through my patterns and started looking for just the right one. My eyes went right to Liesl & Co’s Camp Shirt, the perfect pattern for my Art Gallery Fabric. I have made this Camp Shirt before and really liked the fit. It is not oversized and fits nicely. Another plus, it doesn’t take long to make, the one piece collar is easy but looks great on this camp shirt. One more thing that is a plus for this pattern, It comes in A/B, C and D cup sizes.
I have said several great things about this pattern but one thing, in my opinion, it can look a bit like a pajama shirt. I try to change it up a bit, either with a front tuck or mostly with a small tie at the bottom. This pattern does have a pocket pattern piece, I didn’t use this, the print of the pattern is so pretty, the pocket wasn’t necessary.
This was a fun top to make, each step in the construction worked perfectly. That was due to a good combination of pattern and fabric, with most the credit to the fabric The Art Gallery print washed and dried beautifully and pressing was perfect. I love pressing fabric that holds the press and looks so crisp and new.
I am so happy with my top and excited to wear it. If you need a good pattern for summer, check this Camp Shirt out. If you are like me, summer sewing time is harder to find, so I appreciate something that sews quickly but looks amazing.
