Hello fellow sewing enthusiasts!
I’m excited to show and talk about my flowery top that is a great combination of fabric and pattern. At least I believe so. How could it not be because I had a chance to use this beautiful John Kaldor Lizzano Cotton Sateen Fabric and I paired it with trustworthy York top pattern by Seamwork?
As said, this is a cotton sateen fabric and the flowers on the cream background look fresh, elegant and somehow delicate. The fabric has all the good attributes of cotton – it's crisp, smooth, breathable and it would be heaven to wear on a warm summer day. That’s exactly when I’m planning to wear it, so my forearms and shoulders wouldn’t burn, but I wouldn’t be too hot inside the clothing. The sateen fabric drapes just well enough for this simple top pattern. And the fabric is just crisp enough so it wouldn’t cling on to me.
I chose Seamwork York pattern because I really like all the simple lines and design. Then the fabric has a chance to stand out and get the full attention it deserves. I’ve been a Seamwork subscriber for a while now and I definitely need to sew more of their patterns. All the instructions are short, but well written and understandable. I find the split hems on the sleeve cuffs interesting and these were actually really easy to sew. It has a center back seam with the keyhole on the back neckline. I could have easily sewn it closed all the way as I don’t need it for putting the garment on.
Do you know what’s the best part of the York top? It’s a free pattern!
I’ve found that woven fabrics are much better and cooler to wear than knit ones. Do you know why? Either way, I’ll be ready when the next summer comes – I'll have this Seamwork York top and Itch to Stitch Crystal Cove cami ready then. I’ll show my cami on the next blog post.
