A summer cotton top from my fabric stash!
I got this mid-weight cotton fabric from a visit to an NEC craft show, quite a few years ago. I just loved the bright pattern and the butterflies. However, I decided I didn't want a pattern that cut up the design on the fabric too much, as I wanted the details to be visible. Also, although not heavy, it is quite structured, with no significant drape.
Sorting through my remnant stash I came across the plain, marble effect orange fabric, of a similar weight to the orange daisy fabric. A trawl through my patterns brought an old pattern to light - Burda 6809. Basically it's a pattern you can make in most types of fabric, taking in to account how the fabric will change the final look of the garment.
The bottom borders are cut as one piece, side borders and bottom. I didn't have enough fabric for this type of layout. So I cut two pieces each for the front and back, joining them with a centre seam, which you can't tell is there.
It's an easy make, the only tricky part is the sharp point of the V. If you don't get the seams and turning points lined up correctly it goes 'off centre' and spoils the look. The two piece sleeve gives a neat appearance.
The side splits are a little long, but you can get to your pockets easily!!😆
I think I shall enjoy wearing it with some cropped summer leggings. Today was one for long trousers - the sun may have been shining but the wind was very boisterous with a distinct chill.
For some reason the finished garments reminds me of late 1960's early 1970's designs. A bit of 'Love and Peace' somewhere in the mix.
