Pattern Description: Know Me 2089. Trench style cropped jackets with front button closure have collar, optional shoulder tabs, wide belt with grommets, prong buckle, and belt carriers at the waist. View A has sleeve tabs with buckles. View B has a rain shield. Designer:
Brittany J. Jones
Pattern Sizing: 10-26. I made I sewed a size 10 and used a combination of views.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, very clear.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
At first I wasn't sure if I would like that the rain shield had a facing instead of being lined but i actually like how it adds less bulk. I also really like the tuck at the back. This pattern has some beautiful details.
I wish that it had pockets but as a cropped jacket I understand why it doesn't.
Fabric Used: Minerva Core Range Heavy 100% Cotton Drill Fabric Bottle Green
I love that I was able to make both pants and a cropped jacket out of this fabric. The sturdy cotton works really nicely for this lightweight unlined trench.
Changes/alterations: The size 10 is too big for me but it works nicely as purposely oversized. I can wear it with a sweater underneath. I shortened the sleeves 2.5 inches. I probably could've done another 1 inch.
I omitted the buttons on the facing side because I am never going to wear it closed. I also left off the belt for the same reason. Instead of making sleeve belts with buckles I used buttons for a closure instead. I also sewed the epaulet buttons directly to the jacket instead of bothering with buttonholes since I don't need them to be functional.
Would you sew it again? I'm going to see how much I wear this version first but if I do reach for it a lot, I could see myself making this one or two more times in neutral colors.
Conclusion: I have been wanting a cropped trench for a few years now and this one worked out really well. It was easy to sew but still has a lot of nice style lines. I absolutely love it.
