I've been meaning to sew some luxury loungewear for some time now and when I saw this silk fabric, I couldn't resist sewing it right away (despite the dropping temperatures outside and inside)! This is the Minerva Exclusive Wild Nature Silk Sheer Chiffon Fabric in the white and blue "William" colorway and I decided to make the Closet Core Patterns Veronik Robe.

At first, I was very nervous about sewing with a silk chiffon, but this fabric is so soft and lovely to touch that I was encouraged to just try it. In the end, I had nothing to fear: with a fine, universal needle (70/10) and the occasional aid of a walking foot, this fabric was relatively easy to sew. It's light, but not slinky, and presses well with a light iron and will hold a pleat with even some light steam. It didn't stretch out along the edges once cut or get pulled into my machine's stitching plate. This is likely due to its 100% silk fiber content, which makes it much easier to work with than a polyester chiffon, for example. All in all, it was the easiest chiffon fabric I've ever sewn with or handled and it was a pleasure to sew!

I choose to make the mid-calf midi length (View A) Veronik Robe with the classic neckband and long sleeves in the size 0 corresponding to my bust measurement. My hips are usually a size or two wider than my bust measurement, but this robe pattern includes a lot of ease, so I didn't bother with grading up at the hips.

I choose not to interface the neckband (as instructed by the pattern) mostly because I didn't have enough interfacing on hand in the correct weave and weight, but also because I didn't want to mar the transparent and ephemeral quality of the fabric by rendering it opaque and stiffer. I think it turned out just fine without the interfacing and since I'll mostly be wearing it at home while relaxing, I don't think the neckband will suffer from the lack of reinforcement, at least, I hope not.

I am very pleased with how this garment turned out! The hardest part was cutting out the pattern pieces only because they were so long - this garment sewed up really quickly! I feel so elegant in this robe and the way it floats around my body and arms feels like the height of luxury. All I need now is for summer to come back again so I can lounge about at home in it for hours and not catch a cold!
