Spring is here and most days for me that is long sleeves in bright colors. I was excited for this Minerva Core Range Denim Look Cotton Jersey Stretch Knit Fabric (mine is Purple Sage). This fabric is so pretty but was different than what I was expecting, not in a bad way at all, just different. What I found different all was due to the denim in the name, this wording made me think of a heavier weight. Not this case for this jersey, it is denim as the texture and the texture is beautiful. I always like when a fabric has texture or the print has that texture look, which just adds more dimension to your garment. The fabric is printed on so if the wrong side of your fabric might show in your garment, take that into consideration. This fabric comes in 13 different colors and mine is



I had several garment ideas for this fabric but in the end went with a pattern that has been on my I really want to make list, Simplicity 9182, a Mimi G Style. It is such a cute top with the zipper and collar. The fabric recommendations for this top are ponte knit or sweater knit. My jersey worked just fine even though it is a lighter weight than a ponte. For the alterations, I just added one inch to the sleeves. Instructions for the zipper are excellent and I put it in first try. I don’t know about you put successful zippers on the first try always make me smile!



I did have to work to get my collar to look nice on the inside and still working on different ways to do that next time. I will wear this one zipped up to almost the top. Mainly the pattern is printed on the fabric, so the wrong side is white, so I do not like the white to show. Once I finished the zipper and collar step, the rest of the garment did not take very long. I like the fuller sleeves on this pattern and I would be fun to widen the wrist band for a different look. Another option would be to add length to the body and eliminate the bottom band. Do note the shoulders on this pattern are dropped just a bit. I noticed it on my top and went back to the pattern envelope to check. It is a bit harder to tell, Mimi’s shirt is a dark color but they are dropped, too.

I ordered a pair of wide leg navy trousers and I can’t wait to wear this shirt with those trousers. Add some cute sneakers and it will be fun and trendy.
