New Sunday morning Pajamas!

Hi All, I don’t know about you, but during this ‘stay-at-home time, my weekly rituals are really important to me. Sunday morning is one of those times. I put on my best pajamas, make a cup of coffee, turn up the music, and read the Sunday New York Times from cover to cover. On Sunday, I stay in my pajamas for as long as I want…No Guilt! So, to me, pajamas are everything! That’s why I couldn’t wait to sew a new pair from this lovely cotton lawn from Minerva Crafts.

When this fabric came from Minerva, it was instant love. The fabric is from ‘Lady McElroy’ and their prints are always a treat. Minerva has such a fabulous inventory of fabrics from this company in a variety of colors and textures. In this print, I was drawn to the colors of the birds and flowers and the blush back ground color is yummy.

For my pajamas, I chose a Lady McElroy Cotton Lawn, and the fabric was perfect for my pajamas. I love the blush color, and it’s crisp enough to hold the shape of the collar and cuffs of my pajamas, but as soft as silk to wear. I only needed a bit of shape-flex interfacing for the collar and button placket. Also, I love how this cotton lawn breathes, which is ultra important to me when I sleep.

For the pattern, I used a blend of two patterns, Closet Case Patterns Carolyn Pajamas and McCalls 8056. I used the pants from the McCalls pattern, since I know they fit me well, and the top from the Carolyn Pajamas.

The Lady McElroy print is oversized and fabulous so I wanted it to take center stage. My favorite part of the project, was figuring out where to place the pattern pieces to take advantage of the wonderful birds and flowers. The birds in the print are beautiful, so I positioned one of them on the front. For contrast and to make the details pop, I used black piping on the collar, the front pocket, the lapels and cuffs of both the pants and the sleeves. Adding piping is a simple step - you just line it up with the seam line and sew. It’s simple to sew and I love the effect.

The Carolyn pajamas are easy to fit. It’s loose-fitting which is perfect for sleeping. I sewed my usual size and I didn’t have to make any adjustments.

My new pajamas are so comfortable in this lovely Lady McElroy lawn from Minerva. They will add so much joy to my Sunday mornings!

Until next time!
