Turn the lining ‘box’ right side out and place inside the patterned ‘box’.

Line up the side seams and pin, then stitch all around the top.

Turn out through the gap in the lining and press. Stitch the gap closed.

Top stitch just below the top edge.
Thread the cord through the code tubes and tie a knot at each end.

Mini Lined Gift Bag:
To make this mini lined gift bag I used this free tutorial from Threading my Way and this sweet blue angel fabric.
I used old curtain lining to line this bag too.

These sweet little bags finish up approx. 5” square so are ideal for small gifts like jewellery or nail varnish etc.

Larger Lined Drawstring Bag:
To make this patchwork bag used my favourite drawstring bag making method. You can find the full instructions for that here on my blog.

For this bag I used:
4 pieces of this Red Snowman fabric 8” x 5”
2 pieces of the green snowflake fabric 8” x 4”
2 pieces of the green fabric 7” x 3” – for the drawstring channels
2 pieces of lining fabric 8” x 12.5”
The bag finished up approx. 7’ x 11”

Unlined Drawstring Bag:
Lastly I tried making an unlined drawstring gift bag.
For this I used a tutorial from Tea and a Sewing Machine, my fabric was 7” x 18” and my bag finished up 5.5” x 7”
This method uses enclosed French seams so it’s still nice and neat inside.

I added a bead to the ribbon on this one as I used just one ribbon instead of the double ribbon I used on the other bags.

These little bags really don’t take much fabric, a few fat quarters would be enough to make several and if you mix them with other plain fabrics from your stash it would be really quick and inexpensive to make enough for all your smaller gift giving. Just make sure you let the recipient know they are supposed to use it to give a gift to someone else next year – if they can bear to part with it!
