I was so excited when Cashmerette Patterns extended their size range and couldn’t wait to try the much beloved Stanton Hoodie. Pairing the Stanton Hoodie with the Minerva Core Range light loop back French Terry in white was perfect for creating a casual spring and summer layering piece and really rounded out my spring capsule.
I made view A, the pull on version, in size 4 with the C/D cup. I fit almost perfectly into this size range except the full bust which was a bit bigger than my measurements. I didn’t mind having a bit more room in this garment since it is a casual layering piece so I made a straight size instead of grade down at the bust.
Following in the steps of Whitney @tomkatstitchery I edited the pattern to remove the hood and replace it with a neckband for a sweatshirt that would be more versatile in my wardrobe. I did not alter the front or back bodice or yoke pieces to make this adjustment to the pattern. The neckband was easily created by cutting 2” x (the length of the neckband, plus seam allowance)”. Conventionally the neckband piece would be reduced to 85% of the neckband opening, but I found that too tight to get over my head since I was using the fashion fabric for the neckband instead of a ribbed knit.
This pattern was quick and enjoyable to sew and I loved the professional finishes like the lining of the pocket and hood. And I was able to purchase a physical version printed on tissue, my favorite! I’m sure there will be additional versions in my future.
The Minerva Core Range French Terry sewed like a dream and I’m glad to see it has become part of the “core range” that can be reordered time and again. This spring I saw a ready-to-wear sweater that used the back side of the fashion fabric for the neckband, cuffs, and waistband so I decided to replicate that look and am really happy with the results. I’m sure this will be a fabric I revisit in any number of colors!
I love my white Stanton sweatshirt; it has been a perfect addition to my spring capsule wardrobe. Now let's see how long I can keep it white with an almost 1 year old! Both this pattern and fabric were gifted to me in exchange for a blog post and I liked them so much I can see purchasing them again in the future!
