I'd been wanting a more fitted style of button shirt so had been planning to make the Sewaholic Granville for a long time. I have made three Grainline Studio Archer button ups and I love them as well, but there are no bust darts or waist shaping in the Archer, so it’s a more boxy fit. View A of the Sewaholic Granville almost looks like a western shirt with it’s pointed pockets flaps, so I wanted a fabric that lent itself to that style and was also picturing snap buttons. I just hadn't found the right fabric, until I spotted this beautiful floral cotton chambray fabric!

My measurements are bust 38", waist 34", and hips 44" and I traced a straight size 14 in view A (the one with two front pockets with pocket flaps). Usually I would grade between sizes, but this pattern has a more flared look at the waist and I looked at the finished measurements, so I figured I didn't need to grade between sizes this time. I'm glad I didn't because I actually ended up bringing the hips in about an inch, for a less flared look. I also brought the shoulders in 3/8" and added 5/8” in the bicep. I am 5' 10" and usually have to lengthen arms and overall length, but I had read some other reviews where people had said they had to shorten the arms on this pattern, so apparently the arms run long, which was perfect for me!

If you have sewn a button up shirt before this pattern goes together like a typical button up shirt, so I didn’t find there to be any surprises or weird instructions. Once I had made my pattern adjustments, the construction itself went quite smoothly.

The combination of the scale of the floral pattern on the chambray was perfect for what I had envisioned for this shirt. It also has just the right amount of structure, without being stiff. Most importantly, the pink in the flowers on this fabric works perfectly with my new glasses.

I’m also super happy with how the fit turned out and I’m excited that I now have a more fitted button up pattern to work from. I have been wearing this shirt a lot already and have plans for a second one hacked to have front yokes to look more like a typical western shirt.
