Pattern Description: New Look 6561 & Simplicity 9146 (OOP)
N6561: These Misses' button-front shirts are must-have pieces for any wardrobe. Pattern includes three lengths and features pocket and sleeve variations.
S9146: Misses' pull-on pants with side panel length & tie options.
Pattern Sizing: N6561 8-20 | S9146 6-24
I made an 8 in the top and a 10 in the pants.
Were the instructions easy to follow? I only glanced at the instructions having made both patterns before. I did not have any issues.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Likes: N6561-I like the number of variations that you get with the pattern.
S9146-Love how you can play with stripe directions.
Dislikes: N6561-The pattern is very oversized...maybe a bit too much for me. The short sleeve is slightly too long. The yoke is not lined (I added a lining using the burrito method).
No dislikes for the pants.
Fabric Used: Minerva Core Range 100% Cotton Poplin Fabric in Turquoise (2.8m) and Yellow (1m)
I've worked with this fabric before and love the narrow stripes. It is very easy to cut and sew and it holds it's shape very well. It is on the slightly heavier side of medium weight so it's good for year-round wear.
Changes/alterations: N6561-Lined yoke as mentioned previously. I only added 1 chest pocket.
S9146-I started out with full length pants but ended up cropping them at the ankle. I can't recall how much i shortened them in total but it was significant (i'm 4'9"). I also had to let out the seams from the top of the pocket to the knee because the size 10 was tight around my thighs.
Would you sew it again? I don't know that I need another set like this but it was easy and fun to make.
Conclusion: I have been inspired by the fun colorblocked sets I've seen this summer. Love how this turned out and it'll be easy to style the pieces separately as well as together.
