I love my finished Skyline! The process of making this top was such a fun surprise to me. The fit of this tee is more of a base layer, fitted style. Initially I assumed I would only wear the tee under another layer. I’ve found that I also enjoy wearing the tee by itself (making it a two in one garment, if you will).
I love when I wear this tee and lean over, the fabric stays put. With my looser tops, I have to watch it when I lean over (or wear a cami underneath). I’ve really enjoyed wearing my Skyline with some of the looser style pants from Sew House 7. The Nehalem pants were a project that I made in the past with Minerva in a Tencel Twill. They are so nice to wear with this top. The Burnside Bibs (also a looser pant and a past Minerva project of mine) look nice to wear with my fitted Skyline tee. Even the Sauvie Sundress is nice to wear on top of the Skyline (for a fall/winter option). As I wax poetic about my love for Sew House 7 patterns, I do really enjoy the designs.
I really like the fabric. It’s soft, stretchy, and not too thin. Knit fabric can vary a lot when you order it online (the weight of the fabric, color, percentage of stretch). I was quite surprise with how much I liked this fabric after seeing it in person.
There is a gathered long sleeve version in the pattern that I think would be fun in a drapey fabric (like a rayon or viscose). I don’t think I’ve made a gathered shoulder tee yet, but I think it would be a nice, dressier look.
A few years ago, I had wanted to shift away from constantly making new patterns. I have to admit, I love sewing a pattern that is new to me. The process of processing the construction steps, picking a fabric, and making the actual garment is like solving a puzzle for me. I love the process and I enjoy wearing the finished garment. That said, finding Tried-and-True patterns saves you time. When you’re remaking a pattern that you’ve made before, the pattern is cut out, ready to go, the fit is set, and you’re familiar with the construction steps.
I have a little less then a yard of fabric leftover from this project. The Skyline tee pattern also includes short sleeves and a cropped length. I’d love to use up the leftover fabric for a summer tee. If you wear high waisted pants with a cropped tee, you’ll be well covered with the cropped option (unless a bare midriff is the look that you’re going for, then go for it).
