Pattern Description: Hooded Scarf by Keechii B Style--a free pattern on the Olfa Blog.
Its cold out but you do not have to sacrifice function for fashion. Here is a quick and easy Hooded Scarf tutorial & FREE Pattern that keeps you warm and looks super fun and cool. You are going to want one in every color!
Pattern Sizing: Comes in one size.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. My only gripe is that the seam allowance is not disclosed until step 5.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Likes: So easy and quick to sew.
Dislikes: When printing the PDF there are 3 blank pages with no pattern on it, so there is some waste that could easily have been eliminated.
Be warned that because of the shape of the pattern pieces it's challenging to place it on your fabric and preserve the grainline. I had to shift both lining and faux fur slightly off-grain to get the pattern to fit.
Fabric Used: Minerva Core Range Luxury Viscose Satin Fabric Dark Brown & Minerva Core Range Velboa Faux Fur Fabric in Dark Brown Giraffe, 1 meter each.
The fur was interesting--almost like a velour fabric. It's on a knit backing but it isn't very stretchy. I treated it like a woven. I was expecting the fabric to shed but there was hardly any fluff after cutting it out.
For the viscose I sprayed it with Best Press when I ironed the fabric to help preserve the shape.
Changes/alterations: The pattern calls for stretch knit fabric but I had no issues at all using wovens instead.
Would you sew it again? I might. I think it would make an excellent gift. When I took the pictures it was 25F/-4C out but the hood kept me nice and warm.
Conclusion: I really quite like this. I decided to try out this free pattern to take part in the #bhmpatterndesigners challenge run by @SewNaturalDane
Love the rounded shape of the hood and the length is just right. I'm so happy I gave it try.
