One of my favorite combinations in sewing is comfortable and dressy. In the past I wouldn’t have thought those two would go together. There are fabrics and sewing pattern combinations out there that you can get both.
I think my favorite feature is the sleeve cuff. That’s what sold me on this design. I have tended to shy away from billowy sleeves as I love wearing something to work and then for the evening. I don’t like to get my sleeves dirty in the process of cooking dinner or while eating. I’ve cooked dinner a few times in this sweatshirt and had no problems with the sleeves getting in the way. The ribbing brings in the sleeves visually for the smaller element around your wrist but it’s also functional.
Matching this fabric with the pattern worked out really well. Although I sewed the main sweatshirt in a waffle knit, ou can also sew this pattern in a woven (adding ribbing for the cuffs, waistband, and neckband).
I have a project in mind with the leftover scraps of waffle knit, reusable face cloths! Waffle knits (especially 100% cotton waffle knit, like this one) works so well as reusable eye makeup remover cloths, cotton ball replacements, etc.
