My latest project as a Minerva Brand Ambassador is made with this gorgeous viscose challis fabric. The color is called "Amber" but I think it's more golden yellow. Regardless, it is an amazing fabric that sews easily. It washes and dries really well also.
I chose New Look 6105 as the pattern for this. I knew I wanted to make a top and I wanted to use a pattern that would best utilize the flow and movement of the fabric. The pattern is basically a tunic top, features high/low hem and variations for the front construction of the garment.
At 5'5" I don't consider myself short, but this back low hem could have been shortened a bit, but I'm fine with it. It's one of those things that I don't really think about. I am always concerned about getting the top to fit and be comfortable in the bust and arms. The picture on the pattern envelope doesn't give me the impression that it would be this long, but that's okay. I prefer that it be longer than too short.
There were no alterations I made to the pattern. I did, however, add a snap to the front placket a few inches above the button. without that, it would be uncomfortably low and revealing for me. I find that with most tops this style, I always have to raise the neckline or add something additional in order to keep things contained.
But the fabric is fantastic and the pattern is easy to make. Viscose challis is a nice breathable fabric that will be comfortable as the weather heats up.
