Pattern Description: VikiSews Esther is a close-fitting dress. It features a waist seam, bust darts transferred into the side seams, and waist darts both on the front bodice and back bodice. The short set-in sleeve is gathered at the sleeve cap, and the skirt is gathered along the waistline. The dress features a deep square neckline and fastens with buttons and buttonholes at the center front. Esther is midi length.

Pattern Sizing: 34-52 with heights from 154-184cm. I made the size 36 in the shortest height.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, except that my dress is ankle length because I am 4'9" and I did not shorten the dress.

Were the instructions easy to follow? I thought that the instructions for this pattern were really good. No complaints.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

Likes: The style is gorgeous for spring and I like how although the skirt is gathered that it isn't too poofy at the waist.

Dislikes: Not gonna lie, there are a lot of buttons. also they do not give the instruction to topstitch the facings down but I think it would be beneficial to do so (i did topstitch the back but not the front. I may go back and do that since my fabric is busy and you won't see the stitching).

Fabric Used: I used a Minerva exclusive linen/viscose. When the fabric arrived the weave looked a bit loose and it didn't feel rough exactly but it was very textured. I washed on a delicate cycle and dried on low in the dryer. There was a ton of lint after drying but i have found that pretty common with linen fabrics. post-washing the fabric was much softer and drapier and the weave seemed to be tighter as well. it's an absolutely beautiful fabric and it was easy to cut and sew. i hope they come out with more prints because this is fabulous substrate.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I knew i would need to make fit changes so i did a 3/4" SBA and added 1" to the waist by creating smaller darts. i then made a muslin of the bodice and decided to add an additional 1" to the side seams at the waist for comfort. I am really happy with the fit i was able to achieve. the neckline gaping is minimal and the shoulders don't fall off.

I also made a design choice to keep the dress at ankle length rather than shortening it to midi as intended. i think the dress looks very elegant at the longer length though it does look better on me with heels.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I do not see myself sewing it again just because I feel like this one is enough. But i think it's a beautiful dress and i'm really proud of how it turned out. I would absolutely recommend both the pattern and the fabric to others.

Conclusion: The perfect spring dress. If you are inclined, you should definitely make one.
