Pattern Description: Simplicity 4076 OOP. Misses Knit Tops. I made View B (faux wrap top) with the cap sleeve from View D.
Pattern Sizing: 8-24. I made a size 8.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Mostly. I used a different sleeve and eliminated the ruching on the bottom front.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, they are very straightforward.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Likes: This pattern comes with 3 distinct designs for knit tops and 3 different sleeve styles plus sleeveless. I love the variety it offers.
Dislikes: For the faux wrap, the pattern has 4 inches of POSITIVE ease built in at the chest, which makes absolutely no sense for a knit top.
Fabric Used: I used a Minerva exclusive viscose jersey. I absolutely love the vibrant colors. The fabric is soft with plenty of stretch. The scale of the print was a bit larger than I was expecting but that was completely my own fault for not paying close enough attention to the listing.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I did a 2 inch SBA and sewed a muslin. Somewhere I went wrong and accidentally eliminated the extra length built in that creates the ruching on the overlapped front. Rather than trying to fix it, I threw out the ruched front piece and just cut 2 plain fronts. Doing this meant that I had to hem both fronts and the back as the first step but after that I just followed the instructions except that I did sew the sleeve in flat instead of in the round.
I also raised the center front neckline by 1.25".
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I really want to try the other views so I would sew it again. I also really like how the faux wrap turned out in the end. It makes a nice elevated basic, especially in a pretty print like this one.
Conclusion: I can't say that I recommend this view of the pattern because of the extra ease in the chest. It makes no logical sense and not everybody wants to deal with fixing it. Also this pattern is out of print so to obtain it you'd have to hunt on etsy or ebay and I don't know that it's really worth it. however, having done the work myself I do think the end result is really nice and I would sew more now that I've put in the legwork.
