This is one of those fabrics that when I got it, I knew exactly what type of project I wanted to make. This is a soft knit called Animal Song Loop Back French Terry. It's a good, medium-weight knit that has a nice drape to it, but isn't flimsy or stiff.
For the pattern, I chose to use a pattern from my stash - McCall's 7561 (from 2017). It's a beginner pattern with options for length of dress and sleeves (or sleeveless).
Even though this is a beginner pattern, there were some challenges. There are no finished garment measurements on the envelope or on the pattern pieces themselves. I would think that even a beginner would want to know some measurements that would help to choose the right size. So I did the best I could.
These are the changes I made to the pattern:
-lengthened the bodice by 4" (I should have done 3")
-lengthened the dress View A/B by 5"
-graded wider at the waist, but should have done more
-used the lengthen/shorten line on the sleeve as the sleeve length.
Also, I added a neck band since that makes the neck look more finished. It also adds about an inch so it's not too low.
The fabric is very easy to sew. I did use the serger for most of this. Rather than use a double needle for the hems, I just used a zigzag stitch to make things easy. It took a few hours to put this all together. But I love the fabric. It's soft and comfortable.
