Hello Minerva friends 👋 my latest make is a recent pattern launch from Tilly and the Buttons. These easy fitting Erin dungarees/overalls are fun to make and the perfect outfit when comfort is key!
Let's take a look at the fabric first.
This absolute beauty is the Minerva Core Range Textured Viscose Linen Noil which will be linked below (along with the pattern), and is a medium weight viscose linen (75% viscose and 25% linen).
The fabric has a subtle texture which I hope that you can pick up in these pictures or from the fabric listing images, and the colour that I opted for is 'rust'. There are 19 other colour choices in this range at the time of writing this!
A pretty cool feature of this pattern is that it can be made using woven or knit fabric, so you are spoiled for choice in terms of the fabric selection here at Minerva.
I'm quite familiar with this pattern as I was a pattern tester for this particular garment, but wanted to wait until the pattern was released to use the completely finished and corrected pattern when writing my review.
A sweet feature of these dungarees is that you can choose to have them tie at your shoulders, or tie them at the front bib by threading the ties through a button hole.
As you can see I went for the front tie.
The only alteration that I made to the pattern before cutting out was to shorten the cropped leg length by 1". I could have even gone a smidge shorter in fact as when I hemmed and turned the leg hem up twice, it was still slightly too long and I had to turn it up again for these photos. I'm 5'2" btw.
As always with Tilly patterns, the instructions are superb, I love how the bodice is lined. I chose to line it with the outer fabric, but a contrast lining is always a fun idea.
For some reason I struggled matching my pockets when attaching the bib to the trousers. I had the same problem when testing, but I guess it must just be me, and something that I am doing, as I haven't seen any other reviews mention this particular problem. I still got it to work though and just want to mention that the pockets are nice and big!
It's not a quick sew, but certainly a very satisfying and enjoyable one. I doubt very much that I will stop at just the 2 of these and see a few more in my future. Imagine them in a corduroy or denim. Yummy!
I totally adore my finished Erin dungarees and feel that they are such an easy piece to grab from your wardrobe and just pair with any tshirt. I will wear them with black or white trainers, converse of pretty much any colour, clogs or sandals. Very versatile.
Take care and I'll be back soon,
Kathy x
