Just recently I have developed a bit of a thing for midi dresses - especially those with a ruffled tier. Whilst I have made dresses like this with woven fabrics before, I think this is my first jersey knit version and I am in love.

The pattern is McCalls M8085 (linked below),and is a simple jersey dress with length and sleeve variations and the option of the hem frill.
I made view B which is long sleeved and has the ruffle. It is simple to sew - perfect for someone who is new to sewing with stretch fabrics - and a great quick weekend project. my fabric choice is this stunning viscose jersey (also linked below).
I love the animal print in this navy and mustard colour, although it is also available in a rust and grey option which is cute too. It has a medium weight, and the drape is beautiful (it's 95% viscose and 5% elastane), it's deadstock fabric too which is always good to see.

The neckline is finished by turning to the inside and sewing and I used a twin needle to do this. You could also use a zig zag stitch or even a stretch bias binding if this is what you prefer. I finished the ends of the sleeves with a zig zag stitch.
I sized down a little and achieved the perfect fit imo. My measurements are 35-29-39 and I cut a straight size S. I'm pleased with the fit and very happy I chose this size.

I love that the dress has pockets which is always a bonus - Hooray!

The skirt is attached to the bodice in the normal way by gathering to size and then sewing in place. After this you create a channel in the waist seam allowance to thread some elastic through. This keeps the waist seam nicely in place and also supports the weight of the skirt keeping it from pulling down.

I am so happy with the length of the dress. It makes a change not to have to shorten a dress ( I made no alterations to this pattern at all) as I am only 5'2" and whilst the length is a little longer on me than it is on the model on the pattern envelope, I love it.

The pictures of the dress were taken in dreamy Notting Hill, London and I can confirm that it was the comfiest dress to travel down to London in (secret pyjamas). We spent all day doing lots of walking and the dress (with the addition of a black leather biker jacket) saw me through a show in the evening too. A perfect everyday dress!
