I am very happy with the final Suki dress! I washed and dried the dress after sewing and the starch came out of the fabric after washing, beautifully. The result is a drapey dress that is really fun to wear!
I would love to make a solid black belt to wear with this dress but for now I think the linen contrasting blue is a fun option.
I’m really happy with the fabric! I really like that if you see this patterned fabric from far away it just looks like a black and white print. Then as you get closer it could be an animal print or it could look like flowers as well. It’s quite abstract and fun! I was lacking having long dresses for the winter so it was very satisfying to make this to fill that gap in my wardrobe. I will say crêpe is not a warm fabric to wear but I wore leggings underneath the dress for the photos and that was quite a big help wearing it outside in the winter. I’d like to layer a handknit wool shawl on top to add warmth to the neck area. I know I will get to wear this a lot in the spring and fall as well.
I do recommend this pattern and the book as well. I’m getting much pickier on buying patterns as I have a lot of lovely patterns in my library. I love patterned fabrics so this dress pattern is quite versatile (not having seams in the front or back that would interrupt and print on a patterned fabric) and I would love to make another one (shorter in length and with short sleeves in a linen for summer). The premise for the book is to make garments that are quick and simple. Regardless of the sewing experience you have, everyone can appreciate this approach. There are more patterns that I’m looking forward to making from this book!
Thank you so much for reading this post and happy sewing to you!
