Hi everyone,

I am so excited to be sharing my first gown of this holiday season. Couldn't have picked a better fabric to officially kick off my glam sewing!

This might be my most favourite gown I have ever self-drafted. The fabric is so shiny and luxurious in person, making it a perfect glamorous choice for a holiday or cocktail dress. As always, I don't think the camera is doing the fabric justice!

I know so many of you want to know what my experience was sewing with this knit. As you may have guessed from the photos, the fabric is slippery (same as a satin) so I used extra pins and was very precise when cutting. You can also baste prior to sewing to ensure the fabric does not move. Otherwise, the sewing process was smooth using a regular needle. I also loved that the raw edges don't fray so I did not have to serge the edges (which saved me so much time thank goodness, looking at all that hem!). The wrong side of the fabric has a slightly different kind of material that is still soft but not as 'metallic' as the right side. So it won't feel... 'cold' (?) on your skin (does that make any sense? I don't know how else to describe it). So don't worry at all about the feel of the wrong side on your skin! :)

One thing to note though, I found that the stretch in this knit is not as recoverable as your typical knit. In other words, if you over stretch the fabric, you might end up damaging it. So just be mindful with close fitting garments and use a zipper or button closure instead of solely relying on the fabric's stretch to make the garment fit you (pull-over style).

I think a gathered, folded design would make this fabric really shine (no pun intended) to its fullest potential as it has a beautiful drape and sheen.

I absolutely loved making this gown, and am very happy with my drapey design choice that really allowed the fabric do its magic.

I hope you love it as much as I do.

Ava xxx
