{Taking pictures of a bag is really tricky so I’ll add a video a bit later!}

Since I’ve discovered the joy of sewing bags, I just want to sew ALL the types of bags. This time, I chose to sew the Biguine bag by Sacotin and I used 3 lovely fabrics from Minerva.

The Biguine bag is a zippered tote bag and is available in 2 sizes (Medium for a city bag, like I did, and Large if you want to go to the beach). The main feature is undoubtedly the large slanted stripes on the front. They are really smartly designed and are not difficult to sew. However, you can skip this feature and make a solid bag instead. The front is also home to 3 patch pockets. Perfect for when it comes to carry an umbrella, bottle of water, or tissues.

The inside is roomy and has plenty of pockets too! They are zippered and the large zippered pocket houses one smaller pocket. There's also a bellows pocket facing the large zippered pocket. It’s just a dream come true of pockets. I usually put my car insurance into the smaller, safer pocket.

The bag sports two-tone handles. You may want to sew webbing instead, but these handles are too cute.
I used two types of faux leather. The black one is fake snake skin. It’s really soft, a bit stretchy, and on the lightweight side. It would be perfect for a skirt in my opinion. It was easy to sew. The second faux leather is the sparkling blue. It’s stiffer than the black and is suitable for home and décor sewing. Be careful, because it sheds sparkles everywhere!

The lining is some soft yellow poplin from Art Gallery fabric. I prefer having light colors on the inside of my bags to make it easier to find things in them!

I cut my faux leathers with a rotary cutter and placed my markings with a chalk pen. There are many pieces to cut so be prepared to spend some time at the cutting table. You may need to interface some pieces and add some foam. I added some fusible fleece on the pieces close to the zipper. I also added some sturdy interfacing for the bottom. I hesitated to add some foam on the front and back pieces, but decided against it.

Once everything was cut and interfaced, it was high time to sew the many pieces together. As usual, it went like a breeze thanks to amazing instructions. I always hyperventilate when I read the instructions for the first time, but when it’s time to sewing, it’s so easy.

Things were made even easier by using double-sided tape when placing the stripes and zippers. This thing is so handy, but it can leave some glue on your needle so place It carefully away from the stitching line.

A bit about the needle and stitches. I had no size 100 denim needle on hands so I went with a size 90 denim. It went really well, even with the (numerous) topstitching lines. The instructions advise you to lengthen your stitches, especially when working with faux leathers.
Using a walking foot is great too to prevent fabric from sticking to the plate.

This bag pattern is light on hardware, making it great for a beginner who doesn’t want to invest too much.
If I had to sew another bag, I would add some foam because the black faux leather is a bit too lightweight and not stiff enough. It would give more body to the whole bag and make it stand better. The addition of purse feet was a good idea, to prevent stains from the ground.
