When I saw this fabric, I knew it was something I wanted. To me, it definitely screams "SUMMER"!😂And since I've never worked with this type of material before, Minerva was providing me with the perfect opportunity. As far as I've seen, patchwork plaid is almost exclusively used for summer clothing.
I have been on a journey to use some of the many patterns I previously purchased. For this particular project, I chose BurdaStyle 6912. It's a drop-waist summer dress with options for tops as well.
For those of you that aren't familiar, this is a patchwork plaid ("madras plaid") fabric. On the right side, the squares have been stitched. On the wrong side, the raw edges have been serged. That limits the fraying when the material is washed and cut. This isn't the kind of fabric to worry about plaid matching! I will also say that it seems to get softer with washing.
Working with this was easy. I only had to go slowly over the thicker parts of the garment when using my serger. But I'm so happy with the results. I have been making summer dresses and tops recently. I am glad I had this pattern which is also an easy make. It's very comfortable and is the kind of thing you can put on and look put together (and stay cool).
