Hello sewing friends, it's Kathy here again. Let's ignore the cold wet weather that we are having here in the UK this month, and think of this make as a bit of 'forward planning' for the Summer!
This is the Hinterland Dress from Sew Liberated.
I recently made a 3/4 sleeve length version of this dress and completely fell in love with this design and knew that I wanted to make a short sleeved version ready for the warm weather asap!
This linen/cotton blend really caught my eye, the soft lilac colour with a delicate white stripe is the most perfect pairing for a pattern like this. It's 55% linen and 45% cotton, has a medium weight and is nice and wide. Although there is a little creasing to the fabric when worn, it's much less so than a 100% linen fabric.
Don't forget that you can find links to this fabric and pattern at the end of my post.
Due to the fact that I had made this dress before I had the pattern pieces ready to go. I made a size 8. For reference my measurements are 34-29-38. I'm 5'2".
I had made a couple of adjustments to this pattern... I made a 'gaping back neckline' adjustment - something that I often have to do. I also raised the height of the pockets of the skirt by about 1".
I also decided to narrow the width of the tie belt (at the back of the dress) to half it's original width. Whilst I liked the full width version on my original Hinterland, I felt that the soft pretty vibe on this dress might be overwhelmed with a large tie. I think it worked in this case.
So as not to distract from the pretty fabric, I hemmed my dress using the blind hem technique on my machine and the results are a hem stitch that you can barely see.
Along with sleeve lengths, this pattern gives you the option of either a partial bodice-only button band placket, or a full length dress button band placket. As you can see I went for the bodice only choice and used the sweetest handmade resin buttons from Ethel and Joan that I have been holding on to for quite some time (until the right project came along)! Oh also I flipped my pattern piece for the button placket so that the stripes ran horizontally for this section to make it a little more playful.
Don't forget to check out the buttons here at Minerva if you need some whilst you are shopping for fabric, and you don't already have the perfect match. Take a look along the blue 'Quick Shop' bar above this post and you'll see the button link. Warning - there's a lot to choose from! You can find all your notions along here - threads, zips, interfacing etc etc. It's a one-stop shop!
The Hinterland Dress is the first pattern from Sew Liberated that I've ever sewn and I must say I would recommend them. The instructions are easy to folllow along with, and I'm very impressed with the size range on this pattern - it runs from size 0-34 which covers a bust size range of 31" - 58.5" ! WOW!
Once again I would like to say a huge thanks to all the team at Minerva for this beautiful fabric. Now if we can all join together and hope for some sun soon please!
Take care, and I'll be back soon,
Kathy
