Hello. My name is Katrina from Pitching Stitches and I am really excited for the opportunity to write my first Minerva post.
The cold temperatures have officially hit here in the Northeastern U.S. where I live. We even saw our first snow this past weekend. These chilly temps have put me in the mood for homemade soups, stews, sipping warm hot chocolate, and sewing up some sweaters for the winter season.
When I saw this Cotton Textured Sweater Knit fabric on Minerva's site, I knew I wanted to make "The Fall In Love" sweater pattern from Ellie & Mac. Minerva offers the cotton textured sweater knit in a wide selection of gorgeous, and I mean GORGEOUS colors. I chose the color Rose since I don't have anything like it in my closet. I tend to gravitate toward the same colors, so I wanted to step outside of my norm and try something new.
The fabric blend is cotton, poly, lycra, and it has a nice amount of stretch. The fabric washed up nicely and retained its color very well. One thing I loved about the cotton textured sweater knit is how easy it was to work with. Folding it on grain was no fuss at all and it cut like butter using my rotary cutter. The fabric was also a breeze going through my serger machine.
The Fall In Love sweater pattern was very easy to follow with clear, beginner friendly instructions. All of the pattern construction went very smoothly, including inserting the sleeves. I really enjoyed how quickly the pattern went together. The bodice pieces, sleeves, neck band, arm bands, and bottom bands are the only pattern pieces needed. I was able to sew up this sweater in an afternoon.
Normally I need to grade between sizes, but all of my measurements were within a size small for this pattern. That almost never happens! Yay!! I am 5'3" and did not make any adjustments to the length.
For some reason the pattern called for more fabric than I actually needed. I did not want any fabric to go to waste and I ended up having enough to make an infinity scarf. It worked out perfectly since I had just the right amount of fabric leftover. I love how the scarf turned out and it is so warm and comfortable to wear. The scarf and sweater combined gives a slight illusion of a cowl-neck sweater.
Working from home I wear a lot of casual garments so I can sit comfortably at my desk for long hours. In addition, my son plays sports all year round so I normally go straight from work to sports without any time to change. I really like the versatility of the fabric and pattern. I can't decide if I like pairing up the sweater more with jeans or my "Sabrina Slims" that I made using Love Notions pattern.
I am very happy with how this make turned out. The sweater and infinity scarf are both comfortable and soft. Both pieces will get lots of wear this season. I liked the idea of the matching infinity scarf and sweater so much that I do plan on making more matching sets like this in the future.
I hope this post inspires you to get started on some of your makes.
Thank you for taking time to read my post and happy sewing!
