I love clothes with personality, but sometimes a girl just needs a basic. So, if you are looking for something classy and versatile, you will love my latest make! I used this cream Viscose Twill Fabric from Minerva to make a beautiful Itch to Stitch Bonn Shirt.
The cream viscose twill is absolutely amazing to work with! It presses beautifully, and has lovely drape and movement. In the past, when I heard “twill” I had always thought “bottom-weight.” However, I learned recently (newbie alert!!) that twill refers to the weave. Twills have subtle diagonal lines running across the right side of the fabric. Because this is a solid, the right and wrong sides look pretty similar.
The way to tell the right side is that it has that diagonal texture. You can find the diagonal texture on the wrong side, but it is more predominantly perpendicular cross-hatching. Something I didn’t know before researching this fabric is that viscose is very prone to shrinkage. I washed and dried my fabric once before cutting it out, but I found some people who recommend washing and drying it up to three or four times before cutting it. Don’t let that scare you – it’s just something to plan to do if you want to put your finished viscose garment in the drier without fear of shrinkage.
The flounce sleeve has a narrow hem on the ruffle and my roll hem foot worked perfectly for it! I sometimes struggle to get a nice rolled hem over the seams, but if you start and end at the seam join, you can get it to come out nicely. You press the narrow hem into the seam, and then start there. As you begin sewing, you can feed the raw edges into the scroll of the foot to start the narrow rolled hem going
through the foot.
