I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for ruffles and interesting back details. When I was given the opportunity to make a Fibre Mood pattern from an upcoming issue, I immediately chose the Lola Top. I mean, how could you not with the ruffles, bow, and unique back? Not only does the Lola Top have all my favorite details, I also knew it would be the perfect pairing for the black cotton swiss dot that I had sitting in my stash from Minerva. I had originally planned to use the swiss dot fabric for a completely different project, but I couldn’t stop imagining how perfect the Lola would be in a black swiss dot.

The cotton swiss dot in black is absolutely ideal for this pattern. It has the perfect amount of weight for a summer top and is super easy to sew with. I love how well it washes up too. It is slightly sheer so keep that in mind, but I didn’t find it as sheer as the cream I used for a previous make. Minerva’s cotton swiss dot is definitely a fabric I’d like to use again for so many different garments. Black is obviously a classic, but I would love to stock up on all the other color options.

The Lola Top was my first Fibre Mood pattern. It was included in issue 10 of their pattern book, but can also be purchased separately. I had a really great time working through this pattern. The instructions were well written, the illustrations were helpful, and the style is spot on. I made a size 34 EU / 6 UK with no modifications and it fits perfectly.

The texture of the swiss dot is the perfect addition to this already detail heavy top and, of course, black goes with everything. I could easily style this with jeans for an every day look or a skirt for fancier occasions. It is a great summer top to add to any wardrobe and can easily be made with a variety of fabric options depending on the look you’re going for.

This is definitely one of my most favorite makes for summer and I can’t wait to wear it more once warmer arrive returns. It is definitely one of those patterns that is super rewarding without being overly complicated and I can’t wait to make more versions of this to add to my summer wardrobe.

Do you have a favorite summer top or a favorite pattern to sew with swiss dot fabric? I’d love to hear your suggestions.

Thanks for reading!
