When I sew a garment I tend to know my general look, certain blouses, t-shirts, jeans and button fly pants, lots of jackets and not many dresses. Where am I going with this? Well, I decided this year, I was going to branch out and make a few different looks. This stretch denim fabric seemed like a good start for pants, loose ones with elastic waist. This combination is so very different than my normal look.
This fabric is amazing, I love the feel and the stretch is perfect. Minerva describes this as super stretchy but I didn’t find it over the top stretchy. I love the texture of this fabric, a beautiful weave and the blue is a beautiful shade, perfect for spring.
I had purchased Closet Core PIetra Pants last summer with the intention of making the shorts. The shorts didn’t happen but the pants seemed perfect for this fabric. Even though the fabric says denim, it has a nice drape, which makes a good pattern-fabric combination. Now time for some pattern research, thank you hash tags! It is so great to see the pants on people and you can see how they fit and look. Yes, high rise is the description and it is so accurate. My first change was to remove 1-1/2 Inches from the rise of this pant. When I say high rise, I mean very high rise. A high rise doesn’t look the best on me, I have a very long waist and I just don’t like an exaggerated high rise on me. This was a good adjustment for me.
I will try to express in words how amazing this fabric is and how nice it was to sew. The denim pressed perfectly and was so easy to top stitch. This was one of these garments, I could feel my excitement with each seam. You know the first try on? Well, my excitement faded, these pants were so big! I had made a size 8 as per the finished measurements. I was so disappointed. I took in one inch on each side seams and cut the elastic much smaller. A sigh of relief, much better.
The pattern is very well written and the pocket construction is such a great detail. After all, who doesn’t love a great detail and pockets! I went with the wide leg version as I could see it in my lifestyle with white tennis shoes for a casual look and then cute sandals and a dressier shirt for a night out.
Now to evaluate my different look for me, these elastic waist looser pants. I like them and I need to try different looks so I can hopefully love them. The fabric is the star of my garment, it is just what I wanted and like denim it will go with everything. I am so happy I tried a new look, my next step will be to keep trying different tops and shoes. What about you, is there a look you have been hesitant to try? Thanks for reading and Happy sewing.
