Today friends, I’m sharing a new garment and a super chilled sewing experience.
As a Minerva Brand Ambassador, I had the pleasure of sampling one of their latest kits featuring the Closet Core Ebony Knit Dress and T-shirt pattern. This pattern currently comes in sizes US 0-20. The Minerva Kits are complete with everything you need to make a garment including the pattern, fabric and all the required notions.
I chose to make the tunic view. The kits are available in a choice of preselected fabric which is perfectly suited to each pattern. I chose a gorgeous, floral viscose jersey which would have been suitable for both the dress and the tunic versions. I have a gap in my me made wardrobe when it comes to tops so the tunic was the perfect option for me.
I describe this as a chilled out sewing experience because so much is already taken care of when you make from a kit. Once you have chosen the kit you want to make, there is a selection of carefully curated fabrics to choose from. This means no decision paralysis and you can’t get the fabric choice wrong so it’s perfect for those who are unfamiliar with fabric types. The kit also comes with all of the notions you will need to make the pattern.
The Closet Core Ebony Knit Dress and T-shirt kit comes with:
A copy of the paper pattern
A choice of fabric perfect for the garment
Clear elastic (for stabilising the shoulder seams)
Standard and Jersey sewing needles
Coordinating Gutermann Thread
I used everything but the clear elastic because I made the t-shirt view with raglan sleeves . I intend to make the dress version soon and it’s awesome that I don’t have to hunt down any clear elastic when that time comes. Same goes for the needles. Minerva kits come with full packets of the necessary notions so there is often enough left for another project, that’s such good value.
When the kit arrived I definitely felt inspired to make the top straight away because everything I needed was right there. I washed the fabric as recommended and then prepared the pattern. I made the size 16 and made no modifications to the pattern. The t-shirt view has a neckline that’s finished with a knit band and short raglan sleeves. It has a cascading hem and finishes at around hip length.
I think this pattern would be good for beginners as the raglan sleeves are super easy to construct and the instructions guide you smoothly through the entire pattern. It also came together pretty quickly so one could potentially make this top during one relaxed sewing session.
A Minerva kit is great for any type of sewist, from the beginner who needs some help in choosing the appropriate fabric to the seasoned sewist who just want to have everything they need for the project in one purchase.
Look out for the upcoming Minerva kits as well as previously released kits. What will you choose to make?
