Fleece Backed Sweatshirt – Lotte Hoodie

As we approach the warmer weather, but still have chilly days, I wanted to be able to wear layers with a body warmer rather than thick or winter coats. I spend a lot of time outdoors, with the dog, or running errands in and out of the car and just wanted a simple blue hoody that I can throw on with my jeans, but at the same time a top that has a bit more style.

I was gifted this gorgeous Indigo blue sweatshirt fabric from the Minerva Core Range in exchange for finished modelled photos and details of the project. I’ve made The Lotte Hoodie from Sinclair patterns on a couple of occasions and this time went for a solid colour style instead of colour blocking like the previous two.

The fabric is really soft & a lovely colour. I consider indigo to be a darker denim colour whereas this is a brighter blue, however I’m really pleased with it and it sews & wears nicely. It washed and dried well with minimal ironing and just a small amount of curling at the edges. It is a nice weight, adding a lovely layer of warmth without being too heavy.

The Lotte Hoodie by Sinclair Patterns is a colour blocked hoodie with pockets, a choice of cowl or overlapped hood & optional thumbhole cuffs. I opted for the hooded version with standard cuffs. The sizing was accurate and with good instructions. (https://sinclairpatterns.com/collections/womens-patterns/products/lotte-colorblocked-hoodie-for-women-pdf?ref=87 [afflink])

I omitted the pockets as I found with my first Lotte that they added bulk to the tummy area & the front pulls down with the weight of my phone, which is the main item I’d use the pocket for. I also left out the drawstrings as I don’t tend to pull hoods in anyway. Leaving out these two details makes it much quicker and my third Lotte came together quickly as I have the size and method already worked out. This version was made from 2.5 metres of 1.55 metre wide fabric. It’s surprising how much fabric the hood uses but I may have overestimated the amount of fabric slightly as the pattern lists colour block requirements rather than a solid colour, but it leaves me a small amount to colour block my next Lotte.

Additional finishing touches can change the look of the hoodie such as piping across the chest and coordinating drawstrings. I haven’t used piping on the front of mine yet but have seen some great results from other makers on the Sinclair listing.

I’m really pleased with the single colour and matching top stitching which could be done in a coordinating thread. The hood requires a lighter weight jersey to keep the doubled layer less bulky and I have some light blue jersey that coordinates well and is the perfect weight.

My other Lotte’s can be seen over on my blog https://www.justsewhelen.com/blog/read_200359/the-lotte-hoodie-sinclair-patterns.html & a further post will follow here on Minerva.

Thank you to Minerva for the gorgeous fabric.
