I am really coming in today with something well out of my comfort zone - style-wise that is. I was after a top that was perhaps out of the realms of my usual t-shirt with a little more pizazz. Well the sleeves on this definitely have the wow factor!
With some beautifully soft viscose jersey, I thought it might be time to try something a little new and go for the Adrienne Blouse by Friday Pattern Company.
The fabric is a cotton, poly and Lycra blend which makes it very stretchy. It was thinner that I expected and is more like a viscose jersey in handle, put the quality is lovely and the colours really vibrant.
The fabric is a lovely Marl Light Mauve, a really nice shade of heather purple – as it is lightweight and so lent itself well to the drape of this top. The fabric also comes in tons of colourways which is a bonus. The texture of the fabric is great, and I really like the marl markings in it for a bit of depth.
The construction of the Adrienne Blouse is a really quite simple and doesn’t take much messing about. It would definitely suit a beginner. I was really surprised when I went to cut my pattern that there are only 3 pattern pieces - bodice, sleeve, neckband. The neckband is added to the bodice immediately - then the shoulder of the sleeves elasticated and added in after. And that's about it save for the seams and hemming!
As the front and back pieces are the same there is a neckline large scoop. I actually don't mind this and like a bit of a low back on garments.
I had some advice that the shoulder elastic may need to be shorter than the pattern allowed for to stop it slipping off my shoulder however in the interests of experimenting I cut the true size and it was fine. The cuff elastic I did shorten though as the sleeves were way too baggy with a long length of elastic in and I wanted them tight enough to stick to my arms and be able to push about.
The top in itself I quite like, and I like it on other people - I'm not sure about how tight it is though. I even graded up at the waist so it wasn't skin tight - but it still kind of...is. Not a disaster and definitely a quick and fun make if you were wanting a project to whizz up in an hour or so!
