Today brings some super snuggly ponte fabric! Ponte is one of my all time favourite materials – stretchy, sturdy and sews really well.
This is marked as a ‘textured stretch knit’ and I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived as to how soft and stretchy it actually is. The print is made from raised black knit and gives a lovely feel and bit of interest.
I’m also a lover of a jazzy trouser therefore what better way to prepare for autumn than to turn this monochrome number into a great pair of pants.
Style Arc patterns came to mind as they fit my shape really well with very little faffing and fitting involved. I went for the Parker Ponte Pants and just love them. SECRET PYJAMAS.
Size wise I was at an 18 however I did size down to a 16 as the fabric was very stretchy and I did want a more fitted and tight look to these trousers rather than a regular leg.
The waistband is elasticated all the way around so there was not much issue with sizing down with that either as there was already ease at the waist. Style Arc also print the finished measurements on their patterns too which I find to be a wonderful help.
Whilst Style Arc have a reputation for rather brief instructions, don’t let that put you off. The patterns are fantastically drafted and for the most part, fairly easy to put together. These Parker Pants are no exception. There are back patch pockets and faux front pockets (although you could draft a pocket bag for functioning ones). It’s then a case of whizzing up the leg and crotch seams and sticking the one piece waistband on.
Ta-daaaah. Trousers.
I deviated from the original pattern just slightly as I brought the legs in for the ‘skinny fit’ style and chopped about 2inches from the hem. With the originals they are more of a straight/slim leg trouser which you can also cuff at the bottom.
The fabric was perfect for these. Totally opaque and so they withstand being stretched and worn, also supple enough to keep the trouser shape and not go baggy at the knees or bum as can happen with some stretch knits.
I’ve worn these loads since I made them – they have been perfect for work from home comfort, but also quite smart to head out and about in them too. Bonus points that they are snuggly and warm and great for autumn weather!
