The Cat’s Pyjamas
The star of today’s show is this beautiful Art Gallery Fabrics cotton poplin. It is 100% cotton, feels soft, smooth and silky and is a great weight for clothing. It also sews up like a dream….
Having recently become a cat-mum I couldn’t resist this cheeky little print. Sweet little cat faces but not too cartoonish and the colours are gorgeous. What better to make from these cats, but some cat pyjamas.
I’m sure I’m not the only one that’s a bit fed up of joggers and ‘jams right now so some posh PJ’s were a good little project and compromise!
The pattern here is McCalls ‘Easy’ M6659 in size 20. It contains 2 robe patterns and 2 PJ variations. Just a heads up, if you can’t get hold of this, the ‘Carolyn Pajamas’ pattern by Closet Care Patterns is very similar and surprisingly, the shirt in this pattern is also very similar to the Helen’s Closet ‘Gilbert Top’ so you could use that as well.
In a bold move I thought I’s also try piping which is not something I have tried before. This mint piping seemed a lovely colour choice to pop with the blues of the cat print. I used a zip foot to attach the piping and sandwich it between the layers and it seemed to work fine – phew.
I’m not sure I would call the patten ‘Easy’ in a beginner sense of the word as the collar and facing construction took a while to get my head around initially.
The pattern also has you ‘finish the edges’ of the front facings so I went for the ol’ turn and turn again for a neat edge.
At this point Bagel the Cat came to investigate and inspect the work in progress and so it seemed only appropriate to add one of my Pink Coat Club ‘contains cat hair’ labels.
