Hello,
Another day, another white blouse! I know I have said this before, nonetheless, I will say it again. I do adore a white blouse! It might be for its versatility or the fresh look, the fact is I never seem to have enough white blouses in my wardrobe.
A white blouse goes well with everything, from casual to more formal and it is easy to play with accessories to add some colour. Although, in this case being broderie anglaise, it really does not need much as it is already so pretty on its own.
Now, if you put together a favourite piece of garment with a favourite fabric… it is an absolute wining!
I really like wrap dresses and blouses and I believe this style suits well my body type. For this reason, I had been looking for a nice pattern when I come across the New Look 6560 and thought it was worth to try. It has three different sleeve options (so it can be used all year) and it also has a front ruffle version (I can see another version in my future already).
I opted for view A (long sleeve) without the front ruffle in size 8 graded out to 10 at the waist, according to my measurements. However, I must add that it was unnecessary. I believe a straight size 8 would have fitted just fine.
About the fabric, what can I say… it is a cotton broderie anglaise, one of my favourite fabrics and this one in particular is lovely. It is a medium weight fabric, that works quite well for blouses. Although the patterns suggest using lightweight fabrics, this one worked pretty well in my opinion. It could have not worked so well if I had added the front ruffle as I believe it would be too bulky. Nonetheless, for this version, I believe it worked well.
Another favourite of mine, regarding garments, are sleeves. I adore sleeves with nice details, puffy sleeves, a little ruffle… I think you get the idea. This sleeve has elastic at the wrist and some volume that make a pretty detail. The fabric worked well for this detail as well and it shows off the lovely fabric, as you can see in the photos.
Summing up, this fabric was a pleasure to work with and an absolute pleasure to wear as I do adore broderie anglaise fabric. It is so beautiful and timeless. A white garment shines with such beautiful details.
The fabric worked well for this project and I believe it would equally work well for a shirt or a Summer skirt or dress. However, for a skirt or dress I would prefer to line it or wear a slip.
Many thanks Minerva for this absolutely beautiful fabric for this project and to you for reading.
Happy sewing,
Maria x
