Hi, Samantha here from CrafternoonTeas,

I just love a dress hack don’t you? Today I am sharing my latest make, it’s a Christmas tunic out of the most soft and gorgeous Christmas fabric. I have also made a PJ hack from the same fabric so do check out my previous post...

I chose this cute but classic Christmas fabric in bottle, why? As it’s so classic and a small repeat, I thought that a tunic would be perfect to show it off. The little Christmas tree and star design would be perfect for a tunic that you can wear year after year. So a really eco-planet saving garment in a fast fashion Christmas industry for novelty clothing.

I went for the Deer & Doe Sureau dress to hack, I love this pattern and haven’t made it since I stopped feeding my littlest daughter. I made it a size smaller (size 36) and made two changes to the pattern to turn this amazing dress pattern into a tunic.

I firstly cropped the skirt to the length of the crop/extend line on the pattern to make the tunic. I then made the sleeves wider by cutting the sleeve into three pieces. I measured from the centre of the sleeve to the edge and marked half way and followed this line down the sleeve. Then I cut it leaving an inch at the top to wing open the pattern. I then placed it on the fabric spreading the winged area by three inches on each cut. I then had sleeves with a slight flair.

I am going to wear this top as a casual tunic over jeans for Christmas parties and visits to Santa with my girls, Christmas jumpers get so hot and this tunic is a lovely alternative.

I am saving my Christmas dress for the big day and this year I feel more casual but equally festive in this tunic. Plus it washes and dries to quickly I can have a quick turnaround for the next Santa meet/ nativity play.

Both project were made with 3.2metres of this lovely fabric and stitched with a 80 size needle.

I quiet fancy this tunic post Christmas too in a floraly print. What would you make it in?

Have a lovely week!
