Hi everyone – I can’t wait to share with you about my latest Minerva make. I made the Taika Blouse Dress by Named Clothing. I loved this pattern as soon as it was released by Named a few months ago and couldn’t wait to sew it up.

The Taika Blouse Dress is a romantic style, button down, midi length dress with a V neckline and gathered sleeves with an elastic casing which gives them a pretty frill at the hem.

I thought this lovely floral viscose would work perfectly for this dress. I loved the ditsy floral print and knew a viscose would work well for drape and swishy-ness. The fabric was a pale taupe colour – very pretty.

I knew I needed to shorten this dress by a good few inches as the pattern was drafted for a height of 5’ 8” and I’m only 5’ 3”. The pattern itself doesn’t include lengthen/shorten lines so I decided the best way to do make this alteration would be to take four inches off of the bottom of each dress panel pattern piece. This pattern is made up of four different skirt panel pattern pieces so there was a bit of re-drawing to do.

I also fell between three different sizes in the pattern too and since there are different pattern pieces for the bust and skirt I decided to cut the bodice according to my bust measurements (the smallest size) and the skirt parts based on my waist measurements (the third size). This actually worked fine and the dress fits me nicely. I would advise checking the finished garment measurements of the pattern before selecting your size. This always helps me to make a final decision.

I pre-washed my fabric as always and it washed and pressed very nicely. I cut part of my pieces with my rotary cutter and cutting mat and part with scissors as the skirt panel pieces were too long for my cutting board at the ends.

This dress was a pleasure to sew up and the fabric was lovely to work with. Very easy to sew, pressed nicely and isn’t see through when worn.

I’m so pleased with how my dress turned out and I can’t wait to make another one. I’m also eyeing up the black colour-way in this fabric too he he!!

Until next time
