Liberty Celeste Dress

I am so delighted to share my new Liberty Dress today! I am going to be non-stop gushing about this fabric because it is such an amazing substrate! The fabric is a linen cotton blend so it’s breezy and soft and sews up wonderfully. This color has always been my favorite so you can imagine how special a gorgeous liberty floral in this color is! I was so thrilled to have received this fabric and immediately ran a mental list of all my well worn and well loved dresses and came up with the Celeste dress by Itch to Stitch patterns. It was one dress I reached for over and over all summer and when it got cooler, I layered it with leggings and cardigan. Repeated washing and wearing of my one and only Celeste dress lead it to its sad demise so I am happy to have another one in its place.
This linen-cotton fabric is a beautiful turquoise blue with branches and little white flowers that look like cherry blossoms. It’s springtime in my part of the world so I was fortunate enough to be able to take pictures among some lovely cherry blossom trees. One of the things that really affect how I feel about sewing something is how it presses which is why cottons and linens are my favorite kind of fabrics to work with and I really love how amazing they feel when worn. Pair it with a well fitting pattern and you've got the dress of your dreams! The Celeste dress is a woven dress pattern featuring princess seams, a V shaped neckline and yoke and short sleeves. It has separate pattern pieces for cup sizes A, B, C, D and DD and the pattern goes up to size 20. I love the princess seams and the gentle shaping at the waist. It also has slanted front pockets just enough for little treasures or small bunches of flowers. While the pattern includes instructions to install an invisible side zipper, it has enough ease that you can simply slip the dress on over your head without needing the zipper which is what I did.
Based on the measurement chart, I picked size 0 for the bust and blended out to size 2 at the waist and hips. The fitting section of the pattern includes clear instructions on how to blend sizes and what pattern pieces to alter which I found really helpful. The notches on the pattern are extremely helpful when attaching pockets and while making any adjustments or blending between sizes because they also mark the waist and hip placement areas. I usually shorten a lot of patterns for my height but for this one, I wanted it to be slightly longer than the intended length so I only shortened it by ½”. The short sleeves are roomy enough so I didn't need my usual full bicep adjustment.

Is it possible to have only one favorite dress after all the dresses I've made? If it is, then this is that dress, I love how it makes me feel and I'm saving it to wear it on my birthday next week.
We were heading out to a nearby park when we saw these trees laden with the prettiest cherry blossoms ever right on our street. Pure serendipity to have been able to take pictures of this floral dress among such beautiful flowers.
