Hi Minerva friends!
I’m so thrilled to share my ruffley, floraly, Liberty top with you today!
When I learned that Minerva was going to be carrying Liberty prints, I was basically ecstatic. And today, I am so pleased to be able to show off the very first Liberty clothing item I have ever owned!!
I chose to make the Ruffle Sleeve Top (the pattern is free and is designed by In The Folds for Peppermint Magazine), because I felt that the ruffle details and the floral were just a match made in heaven. The otherwise simple shape and design of the top was the perfect canvas for showing off the print, which I happen to be absolutely wild about!
I made the recommended size, according to the size chart, and overall, I am happy with it. It is definitely roomy in the bust, I think next time I will take a larger dart to help with the shape a little bit. However, I love a good boxy top, and this fits that criteria just perfectly!
I have gone back and forth with the sizing, trying to decide whether or not I would size down for the next version… I may try the next version a size smaller, I always have friends and family who are happy to take items off my hands that don’t fit the bill for me. ;)
I also altered the facing just a bit by lengthening it by about 3 inches. I read in a few of the reviews that the facing tends to hit at the apex of the bust, so I wanted to avoid any sort of visible line. Lengthening worked beautifully! I’m so happy with how the inside of the garment turned out. I chose to enclose the side seams and the armscyes with french seams, which combined with the facing, means this shirt is equally as beautiful on the inside.
It’s no secret that I really love a good v-neck, and this one is just gorgeous. I used a lightweight rayon twill from my stash for the facing, and I love how the creamy color really off-sets the floral print!
There’s not much more to say about Liberty Tawna Lawn, except that you must sew with it at some point! It is absolutely gorgeous. In both feel, and appearance. It is lightweight without being sheer and just feels so dreamy to wear. I love that it can be used in just about any sort of garment application as well as quilting or home dec sewing if you so choose! I have seen so many gorgeous projects incorporating Liberty fabrics, it is so hard to narrow down what to use it on first! In fact, I kept all of the tiny scraps from grading my seams and have them displayed in a clear jar in my studio. Instant decor! ;)
