Hi friends!

I’m really excited to share this cropped sweater with you today! I love summer. It is my very favorite season, but there is one thing I miss during the summer months. I miss wearing sweaters! 😊 I don’t know about you, but there is nothing I don’t like about a good sweater. The style, the cozy, the soft. I love a sweater paired with pretty much any type of outfit!

So when I saw this gorgeous dusty rose sweater knit, I thought it was the perfect substrate, and I set on a mission to make a sweater appropriate for the summer heat!

This sweater knit is two-sided, you can see a peek of it in the photo of a cardigan I made with the leftover fabric. The inside is a beautiful rosy pink color. I think incorporating both sides into a garment would be amazing! And if I had any more left I would attempt to do just that in a 3rd project.

But I just loved how these turned out using only the slubby side, I wouldn’t change a thing!

So let’s move on to my warm-weather sweater make!

I used the Sheridan Sweater by Hey June Patterns as my starting point. I cut a size 8, based on my measurements, and shortened the bodice 1 inch for my height. I also shortened the hem band on this version and because of that choice, I would leave the 1 inch on next time.

I wanted a very cropped and breezy sweater, so I cut it at the cropped length option, and as I mentioned, shortened the hem band. I made it easy on myself and simply shortened the hem band by half the length of the pattern piece.

This gave me the length in the body I was going for (albeit about an inch short! 😉), next I made some changes to the sleeves. I shortened the length by slicing 3” above the lengthen/shorten line included on the pattern piece. I then added 1” in width to the bottom of the shortened sleeve for a swingy, breezy sleeve width.

I also cut the neckline into a boatneck style. I haven’t perfected my execution here, so I don’t have any great tips. 😊 I did cut it quite wide intentionally, I was going for a bit of an off-the-shoulder look. But for off-the-shoulder, I hadn’t cut it quite wide enough, so it just hung sort of strangely at the neckline.

I finished the neckline off by simply hemming. Then, to remedy the too-wide-but-not-quite-wide-enough neckline, I added tabs to each side to bring it back up and help it to sit nicely on my shoulders. That fix was so perfect! The tabs were essentially rectangles that I hemmed on one long side and topstitched to each side. Not only was it very functional, I really like the look!

Paired with high-waisted elastic waist bottoms, this sweater is everything I hoped it would be!

I sewed the entire project (sans hemming) on my serger and it handled very well. I absolutely love the slubby texture of this sweater knit. The reverse is super soft as well, and feels so good against the skin!

The weight is pretty light (but not at all sheer), which makes it a great choice for a summery sweater, but it would also be great for a layering piece for cooler weather.

I wear the cardigan I made from the same fabric quite a bit layered over both long sleeve pieces as well as tank tops. You can find more info about the cardigan on my blog!
