Hi Minerva friends!
I made 3 amazing t-shirts using this glorious Viscose Jersey. This fabric is an absolute dream to work with and even more, to wear!! It's so drapey and luxurious! When it arrived, I knew for certain that I wanted it to become staple pieces that I would reach for over and over, because the fabric was truly so dreamy I knew I would want to wear it all the time.
I started out by making a perfectly slouched V-neck tee. What is a more essential wardrobe piece than that!? I used a pattern by Maria Denmark, it is available in her magazine issue Sewing Life 3. The magazine comes with 3 knit t-shirt patterns and even more variations. I made the "Oversize Tee". (Read more about this and the link on my blog!)
I found this pattern to come together very well, and the fit was so great! I do indeed reach for this shirt all. the. time! I made one small change to the pattern, and that was to raise the v-neck by about an inch. I wanted a tee that I could wear constantly and not have to worry about any sort of wardrobe malfunctions. I really do like the look and the fit with the neckline raised, but I plan to make my next version with the original neckline because I think it would be super flattering! I love how the images in the magazine appear to fit.
After I made the v-neck tee, I still had plenty of fabric left and I came up with the idea of matching tees for my daughter and I! She is in a stage where she loves to have clothes that match mine, but that she still wants to wear whether or not I'm wearing the same.
For my shirt, I used The Astair Tee by French Navy Patterns. I had been itching to make this pattern for a long time (especially in a wider stripe), and I'm so happy I finally did! Shirts like this are just so fun to sew. Apparently "quick" equates "fun" for me! Haha. No sleeves to set and bands to finish the majority of the hems!
I especially love how the shape of this shirt accents the stripe direction and allows for lots of placement options! The drape of the fabric and the pattern worked really well together. The pattern does however suggest using a more structured knit fabric, but drapey works well too! Using a more structured fabric will give a bit of a different look, so it just comes down to what that look is that you are going for.
My daughter's shirt was made using the Morrison Tee pattern by Hey June Patterns. I made the straight hem version and added the bands to the sleeves. I also drafted a little pocket to match mine, because when given the choices, that's what she wanted! The Morrison Tee is a pattern that I've reached for again and again as she grows. The different options are great, and the boxy fit makes it easy to grow with her. That is always a win in my book!
I also added a little hem split to hers so that we could really be twinning hard! ;)
