Hello!
Is there anybody out there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?
I guess you know the words for this famous song. I do. And every time I start my blog posts with hello, I just want to add the second row. So, nod if you are reading now. 😉 My today’s post is actually well related to all the famous songs or bands. Because in this item, that I’m about to show you, I planned to take part of the concerts that were supposed to happen on 2020. Oh, well. I guess I have my lifetime to go and sing along with famous singers and bands and I can still wear my shiny embroidered lace jacket.
My jacket is made from sequined lace and the front and back are lined with unknow type of cotton black fabric. This jacket will be my fancy one to wear to the opera, concerts and etc. I think everyone needs one thing that will brighten up everything! I mean everything! I can easily pair it with black (or even blue) jeans and it gives my outfit a totally different look. I can wear it over a simple black dress and feel elegant. I can wear high heels or Doc Martens and still feel put together. That’s how versatile and sparkling this jacket is to me.
I used Ottobre Design magazine 2/2015 and pattern number 5 for this jacket. As the sequined fabric is a bit rough against the skin, I lined the bodice with black fabric. I sewed the lining and the lace as one fabric, not like lining. I don’t know the black fabric origin, but it works perfectly. I didn’t line the sleeves. All the seams are finished with bias tape and I tried to leave as less as possible the lace inside. Although the front facings do have sequins inside, I do hope these do no harm as the jacket doesn’t close on the front and lays open and a bit away from the body.
I love how the fabric shines and sparkles. I really like the effect the sequins have on the lace. It wasn’t easy to sew, but the more I'm happy that I conquered the challenge. I do not recommend to sew it with overlocker (serger), I broke two needles while I tried. Then I gave up and sewed every seam with my sewing machine and held my breath. I didn’t need to! No problem with regular sewing machine, even when I had several layers of the fabric.
I’ll hang my jacket in my wardrobe and hope for the shining future. Or wear it at home and feel myself awesome.
Sewing makes me happy, wearing me-made clothes and looking wondrous is even better!
Talk to you soon!
