Hello sewing enthusiasts!

Today I’m showing you not only one, but two blog posts! Two fabrics, two garments and the best part – these two go together so well! I’ll start with my dress and then in the other blog post I’ll tell about the coat.

I’ve been wild about Itch to Stitch Antrim dress (my affiliate link: https://itch-to-stitch.com/product/antrim-dress-digital-sewing-pattern-pdf/?affiliates=undukas) ever since it first came out. I got to test the pattern and I had so many ideas for the second, third and fourth one. But time is a funny thing and I this dress is actually my second Antrim dress. Third and fourth are still only in my head. Itch to Stitch Antrim dress is a fit-and-flare dress with pockets. It’s functional, comfortable and really flattering. I love the gathers at the bust, the short sleeves (I’m not a big fan of my upper arms), the surplice front bodice.

As soon as I saw the Lady McElroy Crepe Textured Knit Fabric, I knew it would make a really feminine and delicate Antrim dress. This fabric is subtle yet eye-catching if you look at it closer. It has texture, delicate floral pattern and old times feel to it. I could imagine visiting some old times fair in it.

The print is directional, it means that you have to cut every pattern piece in the same directions if you don’t want your flowers to be “falling down”. If you play with your pattern pieces and place them close together, you’re able to “save” fabric. I had 3 meters of this pretty duck egg floral crepe knit fabric and I was able to cut out Antrim dress and Isidro top by Itch to Stitch. Together these should have taken 3,2 meters of fabric 😀 I’m so happy – it's like I got one for free! I haven’t taken photos of my Isidro yet, but I’ll add them soon.

This textured floral knit fabric is described as a duck egg color and I was amazed how different it looked on photos. I think I still haven’t captured the exact color and feel to this fabric.

I had some difficulties with sewing this fabric. It is stretchy in length (as well as width), so I used a longer stitch length while sewing with overlocker. This way the seams aren’t all wavy or curly. Fortunately, all the waves that still happened, I could eliminate with some steam from my iron.

I made the neckline binding a bit over 10 cm shorter for my dress because this crepe fabric is much softer and has more stretch than the pattern requires. Now I have beautiful neckline with binding that doesn’t gape even if I lean forward or move.

Overall, I’m really happy with my Antrim dress. As you can see, I can wear it with tights and I believe it would be great for summer too. It’s comfortable and feminine.

Did you see the coat I had on too? That has its own post, just check out my profile.
