This fabric is so beautiful, it is a linen look crepe by Lady McElroy.
The background is black and the print is full blown Rose's. This woven fabric hangs and drapes very well.
The pattern is Butterick B6706 and it has a 1940's feel to it.
There are separate pieces for cup sizes A through to D.
I wanted to show you this fabric more closely, it really is stunning It is 100% viscose and will make dresses skirts and tops.
Take care when cutting it out as it has a tenancy to pull out of shape.
How do you transfer your pattern markings onto your fabric? As with everything preparation is key to producing a garment to be proud of and this is an important part of it.
There are many ways to transfer your pattern markings but I favour just one - tailors tacks. They stay in until you take them out if you use proper tacking thread. They do not harm the fabric and they are visible from both sides.
In this example I am threadmarking the fold line on the collar. It is very simple, all you need do is a long row of running stitch leaving a loop at every stitch.
Gently pull the two fabric pieces apart and snip the the thread leaving a tuft on each piece.
The result is a line of tufts showing where the fold line is. For darts and other markings Tailors Tacks are worked by stitching twice into the same spot leaving loops as before. Prise the fabric apart slightly and cut the thread between the two fabric pieces. Nothing could be simpler.
