My #Scraptember contribution is something that I'd been pondering for some time. For years I have been collecting vintage textiles. Nothing obsessive, but if my heart flipped when I saw some scraps of old lace or a pretty tablecloth I bought it. It all started a long time ago (in a galaxy far away!!) when my Mum took me to London as a treat...I was about 16 & we went to Catherine Buckley's shop https://www.instagram.com/catherinebuckleylondon?stkn=d3Bua2dmZTF1NTRv

Never I my wildest dreams could I have ever afforded such exquisite gowns. 80's romanticism + handmade lace = 😍. I could however afford a pack of small scraps and remnants & for over 40 years those inspired my collection.

Eventually, after having my son & a couple of health scares I realised that I'd become that old lady whose much-loved "stuff" wouldn't be wanted by almost anyone else. So I decided to do something about it.

I planned it out in my head & pretty much just started cutting up fabric. The result is a curtain that has woven into it many fabulous memories - scraps of lace given by a friend a few months before she died; a small embroidered piece I did when I was at school & some embroidery my Gran did.

Apologies for the long post - it has helped me make sense of a long backstory of fabric infatuation 🙂
