Hey Makers!

I’ve been super excited to share this latest make with everyone and I have honestly been living in it since it came off the machine. With increasingly limited time available for sewing I’m trying to be really considered with my sewing projects. I want to make items that I know I will wear, those wardrobe staples that you can easily mix and match with other items and style in a variety of ways. Enter…the oversized shirt. Practically every fashion blog you visit will suggest having one of these babies in your wardrobe. I have a few handmade shirts already but I really fancied a slightly larger one that I could wear in a more relaxed way. So with that in mind, I thought I’d return to my trusty faithful the Grainline Studio Archer Button up. I have made several of these over the years but for this one I chose to size up a couple of sizes. I ended up making a size 14 I’m happy with the slightly longer and wider fit.

For the fabric I chose this divine chartreuse coloured, linen/viscose mix. It is really lovely to the touch and has a bit of texture for added visual interest. I really like this colour and think it will pair well with the other items in my wardrobe. I’m all about easy dressing and outfit planning with minimal stress these days!

Shirts are one of my favourite things to sew. You can make one up in a day if you’ve got enough time for a decent stint of sewing, and I quite enjoy the process of matching everything up, finishing off collars and cuffs etc. Who doesn’t love doing the burrito method on a shirt yoke?! This one came together beautifully. The fabric was a dream to wash and work with and I can tell you that it is soooooo comfortable to wear. It’s from the Minerva Core Range and comes in so many different colours and shades. I will definitely look at getting some more for some other projects.

I chose to use French seams throughout, which obviously takes more time but I really think is worth the pay off in terms of garment finish and longevity. I also plan on wearing this with the sleeves rolled up a lot and I think it’s nicer to have a French seam finish if they’re going to be on show regularly.

So yes, a successful make! Woo hoo! Now I need some tips on how to style it in a few different ways…
