My McCall’s x Minerva Collaboration – The Caton Jumpsuit
I’m so excited to be part of this collaboration with McCall’s and Minerva! For this project, I sewed the Caton Jumpsuit, a completely FREE pattern from Minerva that is perfect for beginners.
The Caton Jumpsuit is a relaxed, loose-fitting design with comfortable straps and pockets. It’s a versatile pattern that can be sewn in either a drapey woven or knit fabric, making it a great wardrobe staple for any season.
For my version, I chose Minerva’s Core Range Linen Look Textured Cotton in the beautiful Cerise Pink color way. This light-to-medium weight 100% cotton has the appearance of linen while being incredibly easy to cut and sew. I absolutely fell in love with the vibrant colour—it’s such a gorgeous, cheerful pink that’s perfect for summer.
This is a very beginner-friendly pattern with only a few pattern pieces and no buttons or zippers, making it a quick and enjoyable sew. The instructions in the pattern booklet were clear, well illustrated, and easy to follow, making the construction process straightforward from start to finish.
Another feature I really appreciate is the inclusive sizing, which ranges from XS to 4XL. My measurements are 42” bust, 40” waist, and 47” hips, and I sewed a size XL. The pattern includes a generous amount of ease, so if you’re sewing it in a knit fabric, you may want to size down for a closer fit.
Since I used a woven fabric, I made a few simple adjustments for a more closer fit. I removed ½” from the side seams between the bust and hips, took ½” out of the lower back, and raised the pockets by 3”, which I find to be a much more flattering placement.
I always recommend pre-washing your fabric before cutting, especially when working with 100% cotton, to prevent any unexpected shrinkage after your garment is finished.
There was very little fraying on the cut edges, but I still chose to serge all the raw edges for a clean, professional finish.
I’m so happy with how this jumpsuit turned out. It’s comfortable, stylish, and incredibly easy to wear. I finished it just in time to pack for an end-of-summer trip to Greece, and I know it will get plenty of wear. If you’re looking for an easy, versatile sewing project, I highly recommend giving this free Minerva pattern a try.
